Scenic Pittsburgh
Scenic Pittsburgh is western Pennsylvania’s only nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to preserving the region’s scenic beauty and promoting it’s unique scenic resources. Scenic Pittsburgh is a project of the Pennsylvania Resources Council and an affiliate of Scenic America.
Scenic Pittsburgh operates under the philosophy that beauty is good for business and good for the community. Communities that limit visual blight, craft effective scenic policy and engage in the smart, sustainable placemaking become centers for culture and commerce. Scenic Pittsburgh advocates for, and supports, the creation of sound public policy that protects the scenic character of neighborhoods, transportation corridors, business, cultural and entertainment districts and streetscapes.
Scenic preservation not only increases the quality of life for the community, but also catalzes placemaking, attracts business and draws tourism. Through our education, advocacy and volunteer efforts, Scenic Pittsburgh works to ensure that the beauty of the region’s mountains, rivers, vistas and neighborhoods continues to enrich the lives of future generations.
Scenic Pittsburgh identifies and monitors visual pollution, outdoor advertising, and other scenic detractors as a means of promoting a healthy, vibrant city. Scenic Pittsburgh serves as the voice for the community to ensure fair and equal representation in all issues related to visual blight and the preservation of scenic beauty.
Scenic Pittsburgh participates in, and advocates for, sound public policy regarding all streetscape issues, such as aesthetic and reasonable on and off-premise sign standards, night sky preservation, light and noise pollution, tree and greenway preservation, regulation of high wall signage and the elimination of litter and graffiti especially in high visibility areas.
The mission of Scenic Pittsburgh is to preserve, protect and promote the scenic beauty of the Pittsburgh region, creating a more beautiful place to live, work and visit.
